ABOUT MARIE

Marie is a curious and open-minded musician. With a focus on chamber music, she enjoys playing with a variety of groups such as The Guastalla Quartet and Mainly Two, as well as new-music groups rarescale and the Riot Ensemble. She began playing the violin aged two with Ute Frenzel-Yildiz at the Musikakademie Diapason and continued her studies in London at the Royal College of Music with Berent Korfker, Daniel Rowland and Yuri Zhislin (viola), and then completed her Master of Music as well as an Artists Fellowship at Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Krzysztof Smietana and David Dolan (classical improvisation). There, she was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma for a final recital with high distinction.

Beside being a member of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Marie is in high demand as a principal player with orchestras around the UK including BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Her passion for music, not confined to the classical genre, has taken her to major concert hall stages and festivals across Europe, Asia and South America. Marie has worked closely with over thirty composers and is featured on dozens of EPs and LPs. Over the last few years, she has collaborated with a number of artists from a spectrum of backgrounds, such as Jonny Greenwood, Stewart Copeland, Rick Wakeman, John Williams (guitar) and Evan Parker, as well as pursuing her own non-classical projects, notably her string quartet’s jazz project Four Plus Three with which she has released two albums and regularly tours the UK. The group's latest album, 'Finding Home', won Album of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2020.

Marie also co-founded record label Turquoise Coconut which releases new music of all kinds, curates two collaboration series and runs a podcast.
